Leonardo plays a prominent role in major European and international defence aircraft programmes designed to deliver air superiority, protect borders and meet today’s requirements for security and national defence. A century of experience in aeronautical manufacturing, combined with advanced capabilities for system development and integration, allow Leonardo to take a leading position in programmes ranging from the AMX to the Tornado, the Eurofighter Typhoon to the F-35 – and to develop proprietary products such as the M-346 Fighter Attack. Research and innovation in today’s new technological enablers, such as digitalisation, Artificial Intelligence, autonomy, propulsion and electrification, and in advanced materials, make Leonardo the ideal partner of choice to develop the manned and uncrewed air defence systems of the future.

M-346 FA (Fighter Attack)
The M-346 Fighter Attack, a ‘light combat’ version of the M-346 advanced trainer, preserves all of the M-346’s training capabilities with the addition of latest generation equipment and sensors, enabling it to perform close air support missions and defence of national territory.
Eurofighter Typhoon
The Eurofighter Typhoon is a swing-role combat aircraft, and the key to protection of airspace in Europe and NATO countries. The product of a strategic partnership between Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain, a total of 680 Eurofighter Typhoons have been ordered by nine air forces.

F-35 Lightning II
F-35 Lightning II
The F-35 Lightning II is a fifth-generation multi-role fighter featuring stealth technology and advanced sensors. The F-35A version is designed for conventional take-off and landing, the F-35B features short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) capabilities, and the F-35C is optimised for aircraft carrier operations. Leonardo is responsible, as the second source of production after the USA, for production of the aircraft’s wing, plus assembly and final testing of F-35 fighter aircraft for the Italian and Dutch fleets.
All products
The participants in the Eurofighter programme, managed by the consortium Eurofighter GmbH, are Leonardo, BAE Systems and Airbus Defence & Space. The procurement requirements of the air forces of the four partner nations – Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain – are managed by the NATO Eurofighter & Tornado Management Agency (NETMA).
The fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II is one of the most sophisticated multi-role fighters giving pilots a decisive advantage against the adversary through a combination of stealth, advanced sensors, weapons capacity, and range. The F-35’s ability to collect, analyse and share data makes it a powerful force multiplier.
The M-346FA (Fighter Attack) is a ‘light combat’ version of the M-346 advanced trainer with multi-role capabilities including close air support missions, even in urban areas, battlespace air interdiction for national defence and tactical reconnaissance.
